[Venkman is also visibly drunk, with a big stupid grin on his face. Today's flavor of drunk Venkman is happy affectionate drunk, it seems.]
Ray. Ray. Ray. You and Egon- you gotta see this. Look.
[He picks up the Pokegear, and the camera goes wildly out of focus as he turns it around in his hands and starts walking to... whatever he's trying to show them.]
So! So you know how I, uh, I got the egg from that guy? The kitten egg? The- the Litten egg? The Litten kitten? ... Oh my God, and it's called that because it's a fire thing- it lights things on fire, so it's. "Lit". Who named these things?
But um. It's- lookit.
[Venkman finally remembers to actually focus the Pokegear camera and, wow, look at that! It's an egg! It's wrapped up tightly in a bundle of blankets, and it's got one massive crack in the side. Venkman's not really doing a good job at holding the camera steady, but Ray can still tell the egg is wiggling slightly.]
I had to carry it from, uh, Pallet Town to this one, and I had to keep it wrapped in my coat. I got a lil worried it would be too cold, but! It's been wiggling for a while now and that big crack showed up a few minutes ago.
Egon is sitting at his desk and going through the breeding manual again, pencil in hand as he makes small notes and places sticky-note tabs on what needs further investigation into. He'd just sent Venkman the money he promised that morning (electronically, at that--the technology in this world is truly a marvel). Kölliker had watched him with interest for a few minutes before ultimately getting bored and floating over to Ray instead. She seemed to gravitate to him whenever Egon was busy in his research--maybe it was because of his naturally bright disposition, or maybe she saw him as a second parent.
As he works, Egon occasionally glances up towards Kölliker, monitoring her interactions between Ray.]
[Ray, meanwhile, was spending his time doing some research on Pokemon, going through the Pokedex and reading other people’s posts detailing Pokemon. Since he arrived here he was absolutely fascinated in the different types of Pokemon and their general behaviors. He had told Egon about it multiple times already, but the fact that they can study and befriend so many benevolent ghosts in this dimension has him over the moon. He loves Slimer with all his heart, but it was kind of sad that he was one of the few friendly ghosts they’ve really encountered at their home dimension. Here, however, there were so many supernatural beings who adore interaction with human, and many of them are ghosts! This will definitely give them a leg up in ghost research!
… Okay most of the reason why he loves this place is that he gets to befriend supernatural beings, but the research is also important!
He was currently laying on the hotel bed writing up a small entry about his Gastly’s behavior in comparison to the average wild Gastly he’s come across when Kölliker goes up to him. Unlike Egon, Ray is a lot more easily distracted with the small cell wants attention, and he drops his journal.]
Hey, Ko!
[Ray proceeds to pick her up.]
How’s my favorite sentient single-celled organism doing?
[Kölliker wiggles in Ray's grasp to make herself more comfortable, then lets out a delighted burble. There's the feeling of brain static and random emotions in Ray's mind as she tries to telepathically communicate back to him. Ray can definitely tell that she's happy, to say the least.
Egon looks up from his work, tilting his head to the side.]
She's the only sentient single-celled organism we know, Ray.
[He means that in a teasing manner, of course--he loves Kölliker with all his heart, even if he doesn't always show it. He knows that she knows. That's the beauty of psychic communication.]
[They had been walking down Route 36 for days through the frigid weather. When Egon and Ray finally entered Goldenrod, the two had made a beeline for the magnet train station. The heated facilities were a welcome change from the endless snow-covered paths.
Venkman had messaged them a few hours before they reached the edge of the city--and kept messaging them. Evidently, he was excited to be on the train.
Egon is...well, it's hard to tell. He's excited and anxious and apprehensive and a whole mess of other emotions that can hardly be processed or unpacked, though one could never tell from his expression alone. He's hardly said a word since they arrived at the train station, and he keeps checking his watch every few minutes, scuffing his feet against the ground. Faraday hovers over his shoulder, gazing out among the crowds of people and occasionally glancing in Egon's direction with concern.
[It was honestly tempting for Ray to just fall asleep the moment they entered the warm train station, but he knew he couldn't when Venkman was going to arrive any moment now. He missed him so badly and the idea of missing out on seeing him due to sleep was more than enough motivation he needed to stay awake for all of this.
He was so excited to show this new Egon Venkman. He knew that they would get along great! Of course it was mostly fueled by how they got along in their own dimensions, but still, they would get along.
Ray senses that Egon is nervous, however, and gently holds his hand as they wait for the train, leaning against him slightly.
He frowns slightly as he looks for Venkman. He has no reason to suggest anything bad happened to him with all the texts, but he couldn't help but feel antsy as he waits for him.]
Not yet, let me see if I can find him.
[He lets go of Egon's hand and cups them around his mouth.]
[A small snippet of the texts sent during the train ride:]
we're going so fast i love this thing
did you know magnet trains utilize levitation thats why theyre also called maglevs. not very common in the US
these things are the best for long distance trips i can see why they used this for cross-continent travel
someone on the train has a giant sea slug pokemon and i thought of you egon. you would definitely get one of these
[Alongside this message is a picture of an Eastern Gastrodon helping itself to some Pokepuffs while its trainer pats it.
These train messages continue for hours. They slowly trail off as time goes on and finally, around the time Egon and Ray arrive at the station, they stop entirely as Venkman navigates the crowds, trying to keep his eyes peeled.
He's... anxious doesn't even begin to cover it. His hands keep shaking from nervous energy, both from the prospect of seeing Ray again and seeing this Egon in person for the first time. The train ride helped distract him from a while, but now, so close to meeting up, Venkman feels like he's gonna pass out. And only partially from the rib pain.
And then-]
Ray?
[Hey, he heard him! Venkman pushes his way through the crowd in the general direction of Ray's voice.]
[Egon had been kind enough to keep the news of Ray's departure to the farms a secret from Venkman at first. Maybe "kind" isn't the word for it- really, he probably just forgot to mention it on top of not wanting to deal with Venkman griping over it.
Still, he found out in the end. Which means that when he comes back to Violet City after wrangling Mantine with Dandy, he's pissed. Sure, he missed Ray a lot in the last few days, but he's not letting himself get distracted- he can't. He won't.
He rushes home from the Pokemon Center warp, unlocks the hotel room, opens the door to the bedroom and glares at his partner, frustrated and ready to snap.]
[One of the main reasons Ray wanted the Violet City badge, months prior, was to explore Sprout Tower. Venkman, by virtue of being the only other Ghostbuster with the badge, keeps getting roped into coming along whenever Ray wants to make a trip here. He's not particularly interested in the history of this place, but... he can rarely say no to Ray.
Besides, most of the monks on the upper levels enjoy challengers. He's arranged his team so some of his younger Pokemon can get some practice in while taking out some Bellsprout and Gastly.
Unfortunate that three of his four youngest Pokemon are absolutely awful. Only Petrie is allowed out of her Pokeball right now, which is maybe not the smartest decision, given how large she is. The Aerodactyl nervously stomps alongside Venkman and Ray, one wing outstretched so her tiny claws can desperately cling to Venkman's hand like a nervous toddler in a crowd.
The Sprout Tower always shakes, but perhaps today it shakes a little more, with this giant pterosaur trembling with every heavy step she takes.]
[Venkman is wrapped around Ray's finger and he knows it.
Ray is practically treating this like a romantic date. He's holding Venkman's other arm and looks around the building in awe at all the ghosts and the old architecture with great joy.
He also has his Noibat out right now, and is gently clinging to Ray's shoulder. He seems more curious than scared so he can provide moral support of gentle squeaking as he sees Petrie's shaking.
Suddenly, Ray speaks up, after being silent for a few minutes.]
I can't believe it took me this long to finally go up here! This is the reason Violet City is so haunted and I'd desperately wanted to check this place out!
[It's been nice to relax with Ray again, arranging a mutual stay at an inn to resume their once-daily morning ritual of tuning in to quiz shows together. Even though Winston's not participating in the trivia segments the same way he used to back in a world whose history and pop culture he was actually familiar with, there's still something comforting about slipping back into the habit with him.]
[With one hand wrapped around Ray's shoulders and the other leafing through the pages of a horror anthology novel, Winston's only half-paying attention to what the gameshow hosts are saying.]
[That is, until they ask "What is the name of the Legendary Beast said to have the power to purify polluted water?", and immediately Winston perks up like he always does when he feels like he's right and can't help but blurt something out about it.]
Wait, wait, I know this one- "Soo-ee-kun"... or something like that. [He shrugs slightly.] Not sure how it's said.
[Ray, meanwhile, has been lazily holding Winston as he watches the tv show, and loudly shouts out the answers to the questions.
... Look, old habits die hard.
He perks up when Winston mentions the dog boy.]
A Suicune? Oh yeah! I met that guy once! Right before you arrived there was a party at the Ruins of Alph and some idiots tried performing a hokey seance and accidentally summoned a bunch of origami monsters. He came in to save us but when he left he became strangely gray.
... Same with the Articuno the others and I saw during prom, actually.
[It's Egon's birthday. One might expect the stoic scientist to completely disregard this day as any other, but that would mean wasting a valuable opportunity to devour more cake than is deemed necessary on any other day. Really, that never stopped Egon any other time he decided to eat cake, but at least now he has an excuse.
This also means that he's spending most of the day doing what he loves most--studying his precious fungus samples for hours on end. In this case, it means studying Fuckel and seeing what weird things his berry juice can do.
God help his soul.
Upon being approached by Ray, he barely looks up, but his excitement can be heard in his voice as he leans over his Shuckle.]
Hello, Ray. I've been experimenting with this berry juice-- [He gestures to a nearby milk container filled halfway with the juice.] --and I have determined it to be full of microorganisms that are beneficial to your gastrointestinal system due to how it ferments in the Shuckle's shell. Like yogurt.
[Fuckel peers his head out of his shell, eyeing Ray for a moment before retreating slowly back in.]
Would you like to try some on this cake? It's delicious.
[Ray grins at Egon fondly listening to him babble about Shuckle. If he weren't here for something specific he would just sit down next to him and watch him talk about fungi all day.
But, this is important! Ray gently kisses Egon on the top of his head before placing a wrapped box on the table.]
I'd love cake, but I wanted to give you this first!
[He grins down at him expectantly, hoping Egon will enjoy the gift.]
Hey Ray. I don't wanna bother you or anything but this is kind of important. Do you think the team you have on hand has enough strength to lift One Ton.
That's a SHORT ton, by the way. Not metric. If it makes a difference.
[Winston would've liked nothing more than to relax and enjoy the company of his now-husbands on their honeymoon... However, the structural integrity of the mine's metal support beams didn't care about that. If he's learned anything from his time working construction, it's that man-made structures have no concept of "special occasion" and they have no problem with breaking regardless of whatever else is going on in your life at the moment. So, he spent the better part of the day helping assist in performing repairs with some preventative maintenance on top of it- hopefully everyone did a good enough job that the place will be in good shape for the rest of their stay here.]
[For the time being: Winston's exhausted, and if there's anything better than a job well done, it's having somebody to come home to afterwards.]
[The door opens and the gentle, welcoming warmth of the room and the man within it both overtake Winston as he steps inside again.] Honey, I'm ho~me... [Doing his best to stretch his aching back, Winston walks his way towards the couch before promptly collapsing onto it- right next to Ray.] Man... has it been... a day, today.
[Ray brightens when he hears Winston's voice - they decided to do their own thing most of the day because there were so many different things they wanted to do, but Ray was really starting to miss his husbands. Sure, he sees them every day, but ever since they got married he's been finding himself missing them more. It's strange, really. He was content with never getting married to his partners at home, but everything feels so different now.
Regardless, he wraps an arm around Winston in a half cuddle and puts his book down, smiling not unlike a puppy.]
Win! Hopefully it's been a good day. The mines sounded like a blast, sorry I couldn't go with ya!

[Hey, Ray. Were you doing anything important? Because congrats, whatever you were doing is instantly interrupted by a seven foot tall dragon hugging you from behind. Ray might not recognize the Pokémon at first, but it's Lambton, everyone's favorite over-enthusiastic baby dragon! He picks up Ray right off his feet, hugging him tightly to his body. Either he doesn't know his own strength, or he just really, really loves Ray for whatever reason.
This is fine. Probably.]
