[One of the main reasons Ray wanted the Violet City badge, months prior, was to explore Sprout Tower. Venkman, by virtue of being the only other Ghostbuster with the badge, keeps getting roped into coming along whenever Ray wants to make a trip here. He's not particularly interested in the history of this place, but... he can rarely say no to Ray.
Besides, most of the monks on the upper levels enjoy challengers. He's arranged his team so some of his younger Pokemon can get some practice in while taking out some Bellsprout and Gastly.
Unfortunate that three of his four youngest Pokemon are absolutely awful. Only Petrie is allowed out of her Pokeball right now, which is maybe not the smartest decision, given how large she is. The Aerodactyl nervously stomps alongside Venkman and Ray, one wing outstretched so her tiny claws can desperately cling to Venkman's hand like a nervous toddler in a crowd.
The Sprout Tower always shakes, but perhaps today it shakes a little more, with this giant pterosaur trembling with every heavy step she takes.]
[Venkman is wrapped around Ray's finger and he knows it.
Ray is practically treating this like a romantic date. He's holding Venkman's other arm and looks around the building in awe at all the ghosts and the old architecture with great joy.
He also has his Noibat out right now, and is gently clinging to Ray's shoulder. He seems more curious than scared so he can provide moral support of gentle squeaking as he sees Petrie's shaking.
Suddenly, Ray speaks up, after being silent for a few minutes.]
I can't believe it took me this long to finally go up here! This is the reason Violet City is so haunted and I'd desperately wanted to check this place out!
[What's better than this. Just guys being dudes, holding each other close, with their two non-bird flying animals clinging to them, as they explore old ghost-filled buildings.
Normal date material.
At the word "haunted", Petrie makes a soft, distressed noise and clings harder to Venkman's hand (digging her claws into his palm), curling in on herself and wrapping her tail around her body in a self-soothing gesture.]
Remind me not to let her out around Ecruteak. Or Lavender Town.
[Ray pats Petrie and he takes out his guide book.]
According to this, the building was constructed to preform rituals, presumably harvest rituals given the connection to Bellsprout. The countless rituals over the centuries have lead to the building being positively brimming with spiritual energy! Thus is makes it an attractive house for ghosts to stay in.
[Every single word out of Ray's mouth is freaking Petrie out more and more. By the end of his little spiel, she's let go of Venkman's hand to instead wrap her giant wings around Ray, nervously trembling with her teeth chattering. Please help her. She's baby.]
Why're these people so wild about Bellsprout? There's so many better Pokemon out there.
[A few nearby monks glance over and give Venkman a Look.]
[Ray happily holds onto poor Petrie as he continues talking, like nothing happened.]
Aww c'mon Pete, that's not even the whole story! According to legend, the pillar in the middle is actually a 100 foot tall Bellsprout! The whole tower is a metaphor for the cooexistence between Humans and Pokemon!
[Then, in a hushed voice in hopes that Petrie doesn't hear:]
Also I hear that the acid they spit out can melt iron so you probably shouldn't insult them in here.
I could also see if Jodie'd be willing to put in some work with getting her to calm down, especially with how much Rue's improved over the months.
[Petrie makes a cooing sound as she's handed the Pokepuff, and releases Ray and Venkman from her hold. She brings the Pokepuff up to her giant mouth and takes an extremely tiny nibble of the treat.
Whatever it is in the rafters takes flight, though it's still hard to make out what it might be- it's still shrouded in shadows, and not at all close to the idiot duo and their Pokemon. Yet. But the Noibat can hear the flutter of leathery wings.]
[Ray playfully nudges Venkman as Petrie takes the Pokepuff.]
And you say I spoil my Pokemon.
[She is cute though and she loves her.]
And maybe Bean can help too! He seems like the kind of guy who'd help someone out when they're scared or worried!
[The Noibat climbs to the top of Ray's head (which he completely ignores, mind you), to see if he can get a better look. He makes another squeaky sound at the stranger. Who are you???]
Not spoiling if it's changing her association with this place from a bad one to a good one.
[Another tiny nibble.
The shape doesn't answer with words. Rather, it swoops down- right for Petrie. The Aerodactyl doesn't notice the incoming attack until it's almost too late, at which point she screeches, throwing the Pokepuff in the air and crouching down, shielding her face with her wings.
The shape flies rather clumsily, but it does successfully grab the Pokepuff mid-flight in its mouth. It's so distracted by its excitement over this that it doesn't realize it's flying straight towards Ray. It's probably gonna collide with Ray face-first.
[The good news is that the Noibat notices it just in time to fly out of the way!
The bad news? Ray is so caught off guard by the sudden attack that he has no time to dodge the upcoming attack. The bat hits him right in the face and he falls over, leaving a notable heart-shaped imprint on his face.]
[Venkman is similarly startled, briefly gaping from his terrified Aerodactyl to his partner's face to the Woobat, which is now lying stunned on the floor following its impact with Ray.]
At least you usually like getting ambushed by weird shit as long as it's- [Ah, yes. Proving his point before he can even make it.] - Interesting.
[He peers at the heart-shaped nose, then at the imprint on Ray's face.]
Looks like you guys match.
[The Woobat stirs, fluttering its wings as it moves into an upright position. It doesn't exactly have eyes, but it appears to be looking from each face in turn. Except Petrie's, since she's still covering her face with her wings.]
I feel like it'd be better luck to not get attacked by bats, Ray.
[The Woobat chirps to the Noibat, reassuring him that it's fine, before it stiffens. With a shriek, the Woobat flies unsteadily towards Venkman's bag.]
Christ-!
[The Woobat attaches itself to his bag and pries free another Pokepuff out of the open pocket.]
[There's a flash of light from the bag's pocket, and Venkman watches with clear shock as the Woobat finds itself enveloped and disappears. He digs his hand into the pocket and pulls out the wriggling Pokeball.]
Shit. It must've clicked the button while- why did I even have empty containment units in here-
[Click. The Pokeball settles.
Petrie finally peers out from behind her wings. Is it gone?]
backdated: probably around 7/27?

Why is this place haunted, anyway?
[Another little screech.]
Hush.

It's pretty neat doncha think, Peter?

... Good point. I've had more than my fair share of Pokemon that could kill me.
[Petrie detaches one wing from Ray to grab Venkman again. He sighs.]
Can you calm down? Nothing's even happening, kid.

[A big baby.....
Ray's Noibat suddenly perks up, and stares in a random direction.
That's probably fine.]

She's almost as bad as Roach was. 'Cept Roach started to grow outta being as much of a coward once he got this big.
[He pries his hand from the pocket to reveal what he was looking for- a Pokepuff. He deposits it into the Aerodactyl's claws.]
Here. Eat this and chill out.
[Something stirs in the rafters- curious.]

... I'll be honest, I have no idea.

I'm really starting to understand what you feel like, Pete. I'm starting to wonder if I'm cursed in this dimension since things keep happening to me.
[But! Ray's slight annoyance is quickly dashed when he realizes what hit him.]
Whoa, is that a Woobat?!

Well it's nice to make a new friend, right Venkie?
[The Noibat looks slightly distress as he goes to root in Venkman's bag for the Woobat. Friend where are you????]

[He tugs the Pokeball out of his bag, grimacing at it.]
