PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Yes! Ray lives for physical affection and if he likes you you're bound to get a hug at some point anyway

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: WHY WOULD YOU HURT HIM?! =( But seriously I'm cool with that, just gimme a heads up! I'm cool with minor injuries as long as you give me a heads up. Anything beyond minor cuts and bruises though I would prefer plotting out. And I'm fine with Ray dying but obviously I would wanna plot it out first

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Ray is gay af you can't convince me otherwise Dan Aykroyd and IDW
But seriously I'm def fine with flirting and romance! Just gimme a heads up first so we can plot it!

SEXUAL CONTENT: I'd prefer a fade to black situation unless we're really close but hey if they consent I don't mind sexual content!

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Ray has none, and I don't mind it if your character uses psychic powers on Ray! He's probably just thinking constantly about ghosts anyway.

MAGIC/POWERS: Ray has none, but Slimer does have the ability to transform into people. I won't do it however unless the person he's transforming into is cool with this!

MEDICAL INFORMATION: He needs contacts, does that count?

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Ray was bullied as a kid and in the NOW comics (which I generally consider as canon), it's heavily implied that Ray was subjected to fatphobic bullying. I will pretty much never bring it up naturally in threads, but it might come up in events so let me know if you're uncomfortable with it!

Also even though the cartoon deviates heavily from the movie I should warn that the movie has heavy amounts of casual sexism and sexual harassment instances. Due to the show being directly aimed at kids obviously not only does it never come up but they definitely don't reflect the views of the movie but if you're at all uncomfortable about rping with Ray bc of the movie I can't blame you and please let me know ASAP!

BACKTAGGING: Sure thing! I don't mind backtagging at all

FOURTH WALLING: I don't mind it for Ray, especially since the original movie is canon in the RGB universe, and Ray is considered a bit of a celebrity thanks to his job. Plus Ray is a big believer in the multiverse and could easily believe that people only see him as a fictional character in another universe. Please give me a heads up though if you do! And generally I'm not a big fan of cr that revolves entirely around a character fourth walling another. (I however fully embrace mocking Ray for ghostjob)

As a note, with Deerington I'm more ok with characters recognizing Ghostbusters the movie as a fictional movie and that Ray Stantz is a character from it than a character knowing the Real Ghostbusters as a fictional cartoon and knowing this Ray from it. This is mostly because Ray already has little sense of self preservation and saying "Hey Ray Stantz you're a cartoon" would just ruin what little sense he has because "he's a cartoon he'll be ok!!"

Content Warnings: Mentions of bullying. The movie also includes casual sexism and sexual harassment. The later two isn’t brought up in the Real Ghostbusters at all but I wanted to put that out there just as a general warning

History: Here’s the idiot

Personality: Ray is like if a giant puppy managed to get a PhD and got really into the idea of researching ghosts. Dubbed “The Heart of the Ghostbusters”, he is incredibly childlike, finding joy in seemingly everything. Despite being an adult, he’s known for loving very childish things, like toys, cartoons, and comic books. It’s to the point where he is seen as a living charm against negative energies given off by powerful ghosts, as pointed out in the comic series Ghostbusters Crossing Over.

Ray is absolutely fascinated by the strange and paranormal. When other people are screaming in terror at a terrifying ghost or demon, Ray is acting like a child on christmas morning. He’s one of the first people to befriend Slimer and is the one that’s openly close to him. His excitement of the supernatural, however, does come at a price. He struggles to take serious situations seriously, instead of being excited when in life threatening situations with ghosts.

However he’s isn’t stupid, and behind Egon is easily the smartest member of the ghostbusters by far with a PhD in parapsychology and an MS in Electrical Engineering. Mainly he specializes in the engineering side of the business. He created all of the ghostbusting equipment with the help of Egon, and he is the one who single handedly fixed up a new proton pack and trapper in one night with limited resources (it exploded after one use but it still worked!).

Ray is incredibly supportive of all the people he cares about, and is generally the ghostbuster others like the most. He has his own ways of bonding with each of them, whether it’s having special shows they watch together, work on experiments with each other, or just telling jokes. Ray just loves bonding with people in however way he can.

Despite that he isn’t soft to the point of being a pushover. If something irks him he will freely voice it, whether because he sees something unjust or if he’s just annoyed by someone. He openly teases people who are mean to him (including Venkman) and makes snide comments to rude people who take advantage of others. He sometimes teams up with Venkman to tell off other people like threatening to send ghosts to a guy’s house or telling Venkman to blast Slimer after annoying him one too many times.

Also he canonically called Walter Peck “dickless” in this universe. I don’t care if The Real Ghostbusters and the movie canonically take place in different universes he still said that.

Ray has an extremely strong sense of morals and wears his heart proudly on his sleeve. He’s always one who’s willing to do what’s right, even if he’s certain it will kill him. According to the showrunner, Ray is the ghostbuster who believes in the good of humanity and that good will triumph over evil.

The problem? Ray… does not always have a good idea on what good vs evil is. Sure, he knows that a ghost destroying the city is bad and that lying, cheating, and stealing is also bad, but he tends to bend the laws a little, intentionally or not. Venkman has a habit of lying in order to get out of paying for damages and Ray is (along with the other ghostbusters) not only aware of that, but participates in it from time to time. And when Bassingame, a phony psychic that caused ghosts to wreak havoc in Ray’s aunt’s home, demanded a check, he threatened to find out where he lived and send ghosts to him unless he changed his mind. The proton packs are also quite basically unlicensed nuclear weapons that could literally kill people if they weren’t careful. He seems to have zero objections to building and his only ever concern of it is in the first movie when he’s worried that it might blow up upon their first usage.

He also canonically attempted to raise the dead with Egon according to Extreme Ghostbusters, a direct sequel to the Real Ghostbusters. Make that of what you will.

And with his fears? … Honestly really lacking. When faced with the real idea that he could die, he is clearly saddened by it, but is willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Things that normally scare others, Ray seems to embrace with open arms, even exclaiming excitement multiple times at world ending situations and showing excitement at weird monsters that could kill him. Even with facing Gozer and after Ray almost destroyed the world with a marshmallow, Ray states in an episode that a comic book he likes being cancelled is worse than that. (Although it’s safe to say that he was just being overly dramatic then)

This is going into headcanon territory, but he does seem to have a fear of people he cares about not liking him. There does seem to be small evidence to this however, ie in The Devil to Pay when Ray looks embarrassed when he gets excited to be picked for a game show, and even looks over at Winston as if worried he would judge him. It’s not major, and certainly not a fear that prevents him from being friendly, but it’s something small and persistent. The reason why I point this out out of anything is because Ray has been heavily implied to have been bullied as a kid, as referenced in Look Homeward, Ray. It was stated that he was considered to be an absolute nobody who'd amount to nothing by his high school and Ray seemed extremely nervous about the ordeal, to the point that he gave up being a ghostbuster after the town mocked him for being a perceived failure again.

He does seem to have a fear of letting those down, connected to his history above. Since he so quickly quit the ghostbusters after he believes that he's no longer a good member of the team anymore, it seems like his worth is pretty closely tied to how useful he is. Despite that, though he usually is willing to keep trying no matter how hard the stakes are in order to help those in need.

Despite that, I should note that Ray is not someone who likes pressuring relationships, and will not pursue one if the other person doesn’t like him (honestly he would probably hate them too), but if he really wants someone to like him, it really hurts him when they don’t, enough that he’s willing to give up doing what he loves out of guilt.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Ray is very much a normal human
However Slimer does have abilities! Mainly that he can float and phase through walls, and possesses transformation skills (mainly very minor transformations but in one of the comics he was shown to be able to fully disguise himself as a human on command). Other than that, however, he doesn’t possess anything of note. Slimer has no transportation abilities as an aside but if anything needs to be nerfed I'm cool with that!

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Very comfortable! The movie canonically exists in the cartoon’s universe and Ray is a firm believer in the multiverse theory. He will probably take this uncomfortably well
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I’m a huge fan of cool monster designs! In my opinion the best way to show how creative people can be is by exploring how to create a creature that can scare others. And a good horror villain is a great way to reflect the message of the story (the monsters in Silent Hill 2 being a reflection of character’s past and feelings is a particularly great example)

Beyond that though I love how horror explores characters in ways that can’t be explored in other genres. You get to see someone’s true colors and what pushes them to the limit in horror scenarios and I think it's fun to see how characters change with the horrors they face. It's fascinating how one horror makes one character stronger can completely break another person.
